The End

We've been SO CLOSE to finishing the bathroom for over a month - all that was lacking was some touch-up grout and then caulking around the shower. It's finally finished and we can wrap up getting the other bedroom ready for our baby girl's arrival in just 7 weeks!

David is applying the caulk.

Since we first posted our "Before" pictures in March (ugh!), here they are, "Before" and "After" so you get a good idea of the changes we made. And, at last, a look at our fun vessel sinks!

.....and closer yet....

Last week, Jessica worked on grouting the bathroom; this took a couple days what with other things interfering, like going to work. Once the weekend got here, we managed to get a few more things done in the bathroom. We had to scrape grout from the edges of the tiles to make the grout lines cleaner and more distinct, and that was extremely difficult and exhausting. We finally discovered that green brillo pads work great! After working late into Friday night (read: 1:00 a.m.), Saturday consisted of sealing the grout, waiting for it to dry so we could walk on it, and then installing a few more pieces.

At this point (Monday night), all we have left is to caulk various places in the bathroom, install the shower curtain rod, and install the remaining 2 pieces of baseboard molding and one side of the door molding. While David works on those items, Jessica has been working on clearing out the materials and tools from the bedroom so that we can move back in ASAP. We are thrilled to be SO CLOSE to the end!!

Nice new mirrors are installed.

A beautiful tiled backsplash waiting for grout.

The vanity doors are now finished with their own handles.

Grout haze covers the tile as Jessica wraps up a second day of grouting (hence the two-toned grout; dark=still wet).

Ooh - shiny, cleaned, scrubbed, sealed tile! All that hard work definitely paid off!

David getting ready to install the toilet.

Same toilet as before, but with a new lever that matches the brushed nickel hardware in the rest of the room.

Getting closer...

We are getting SO CLOSE to being done with our bathroom remodel! This weekend consisted of more progress, pictured below. We're hoping to be done with by Wednesday or Thursday of THIS WEEK! :-O How exciting! We looked through past pictures and realized that we moved from our bedroom into the 2nd bedroom at the beginning of April. That's 7 months of hard labor - it's about time we wrapped up this project. If we finish the bathroom by the middle of the week, we'll be able to clean up and move back into our bedroom Friday and then enjoy Saturday doing whatever we want. It's been quite a while since we've had a free weekend like that.

Jessica installed her custom-made doors and drawers (with handles) to the vanities! We just need to add the false front.

Adding the last remaining tiles to the shower and the curb...!

One more to go.

The shower and bathroom floor are FINISHED with tile! We just need to grout and seal them.

David is armed and ready to bore a giant hole in the counter for the sink drain.

....Don't mess up.....!!

Nicely executed.

Jessica put up the towel bar and rings.

She also added the face plates to the outlets and light switches.

Hooky

Today we played 'hooky' from work and got a lot of progress done on the bathroom. Since we're traveling in just a couple weeks, we wanted to really crank out some of the work. We still had tile to cut, also, and today is the last non-rainy day in the forecast for a while, so we wanted to take advantage of it. We woke up early and went to Home Depot and Lowe's to buy lights, mirrors, a little more tile, a curtain rod, and detail items (fun fact of the day: Home Depot will take Lowe's coupons!). We think we've finally bought the last few supplies we'll need to finish the project - what a feeling of relief!

So, without further ado....

Jessica cut a bunch of tiles on Tuesday before work.

David cut the remaining bunch of tiles today instead of work. :-) No more tiles left to cut!!

Installing the new pocket door.

Ooh, new light fixtures!

Installing a couple vanity doors.

Look at the beautiful lights and new counter top! There's a matching set across the room (not pictured).

Pretty! It's much brighter in real life.

While David's away...

...Jessica will tile! This morning, Jessica managed to finish the 'whole' tiles for the bathroom floor; now all that remains are the tiles that need to be cut, and then we can grout.

Ooh, our sinks and faucets arrived today, too! You'll just have to wait to see what they look like.... :-)

Slight progress

This past Saturday, David had to go in to work, so Jessica was the only one home to work on the bathroom. Because of that, there was only slight progress made; nevertheless, here it is! We were 1 square foot short for the shower floor, so that required a Lowe's trip Saturday evening. Oh well!

David finished the lower tiles Friday night, and early Saturday morning we lugged the vanities back upstairs before he headed to work.

Jessica finished the border around the shower.

Most of the shower floor has been laid.

David came home and snapped a pic of Jessica starting on the bathroom floor.

The floor progress Jessica made before all the mortar ran out. Time to buy a new bag!

Shower Walls

Due to the lack of posts on our blog, we didn't include pictures of David painting the bathroom, or the two of us installing the backerboard for the tile. But here are some great pictures of our "Arizona Sunset" painted bathroom! We love it.

Last weekend consisted of tiling the shower walls. We've never laid tile before (just like we've never done any of these projects before!), so this was a new adventure for us. After a short scare of thinking we'd miscalculated the number of tiles we had to work with, we got to work. Things went well overall; there was a slight learning curve with figuring out just when the mortar gets a little too dry and it's time to add more water. After about 5 tiles fell, we figured it out. :-) Below are pictures of our progress! We are quite proud of it.

The blank canvas, ready for tile!

Our flagship tile has been placed!

David adding more mortar for Jessica.

Jessica and baby girl Russell adding the cut edge pieces.

Look at all those cut pieces bordering the right side of the wall.

Starting a new wall!

Wow, all that's left are details such as the border and a few more cut tiles!
