Shower Walls

Due to the lack of posts on our blog, we didn't include pictures of David painting the bathroom, or the two of us installing the backerboard for the tile. But here are some great pictures of our "Arizona Sunset" painted bathroom! We love it.

Last weekend consisted of tiling the shower walls. We've never laid tile before (just like we've never done any of these projects before!), so this was a new adventure for us. After a short scare of thinking we'd miscalculated the number of tiles we had to work with, we got to work. Things went well overall; there was a slight learning curve with figuring out just when the mortar gets a little too dry and it's time to add more water. After about 5 tiles fell, we figured it out. :-) Below are pictures of our progress! We are quite proud of it.

The blank canvas, ready for tile!

Our flagship tile has been placed!

Jessica hard at work.

David adding more mortar for Jessica.

Jessica and baby girl Russell adding the cut edge pieces.

Look at all those cut pieces bordering the right side of the wall.

Starting a new wall!

Wow, all that's left are details such as the border and a few more cut tiles!

  1. Ok, so just cause we don't comment, doesn't mean we aren't looking at them. I'm looking, anyways. And per your comment about you and baby Russell tiling, I didn't see her doing a single thing...lazy baby! :) It looks really nice, though. So when do you lay the bottom?

  2. Love the tilework and glad it's you and not me. My old knees can't get down on the floor anymore! What kind of accent colors are you planning to use with the wall color? It will certainly wake you up in the mornings! :). I'm thinking you're taking the gator orange and blue thing a bit far even if they aren't the exact tones! Love you guys-keep on plugging away, it looks great!

  3. Rebekah: Oh, we meant 'due to the lack of posts' on our part, as in - we'd been lax in updating. And yeah - baby Russell was causing more trouble than anything, tiring me out too often!

Mom: Yeah, we were sort of going for a good wake-me-up for the mornings! We did realize belatedly that the 2nd bedroom is blue while this bathroom is orange. At least the accompanying bedroom for this particular bath is green. :-)
